Book Review: The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Being Fit

No junk food, no sweets and only oats for breakfast. Multiple alarms to wake up in the morning to exercise, but failing every day either due to laziness or  tiredness. Too much work pressure, breakouts on the skin and falling hair. Glow without makeup is not possible and even after 7 hours of sleep tiredness doesn’t go away.

Every other girl who wants to lose weight or become fit has the same story these days. Thanks to long commute for work, social life and laziness, we are losing out on upkeeping of our body. Slowly and gradually we tend to forget that when the time comes, only our body will support us.

To avoid such long lists of what to eat and what not to eat, people like Namrata Purohit are there. She is the youngest certified Stott Pilates instructor in the world from India and an avid sports person. She has a long list of celebrities as her students and she coaches Pilates to Mumbai FC. And now, with her book The Lazy Gir’s Guide to Being Fit, she wants people to exercise in a smart, simple and safe way.

Most of us want to be fit and healthy, but do not have the willpower to do so. Some have a time constraint and some just simply pile it on tomorrow. This book makes you move out from you comfort zone into the exercise zone. It is all about those first few steps that you take, and once you get into a routine, no one can stop you. The book tells you how can you guise exercise into daily activities of your life, even when you are shopping and how eating properly can save you a lot of troubles. And no, the book doesn’t preach you to starve yourself on oats and other pulses. You can eat a lot more variety of food and still be fit and glowing.

Overall, the book has been a great read. It’s not restricted to only women who want to lose weight or get fit, this book is for everyone including men. Also, the writing style has been simple and engaging enough for everyone to grasp the fundamental concepts that Namrata wants us to incorporate in our lives. There are many simple exercises mentioned that we can do on a daily basis and we won’t even miss out on them. This book is like the most simple health guide minus boring food and excruciating exercises! A must read or everyone for a healthy lifestyle.
